When a windshield needs replacing, not repairing
We always try to repair first — it's cheaper and keeps your factory seal. But when you see any of these, replacement is the safe call.
Cracks longer than a dollar bill
Long cracks (roughly 6" or more) usually can't be safely repaired and tend to keep spreading.
Damage in the driver's view
Even a repaired chip leaves a small blemish. In your direct line of sight, that's a safety and legal issue.
Cracks reaching the edge
Edge cracks weaken the windshield's structural bond with the frame and rarely hold a repair.
Shattered or caved-in glass
Break-ins, accidents, or large impacts almost always call for a full replacement.
Damage through both layers
If the inner glass layer is cracked, resin can't restore it — the glass must be replaced.
Too many chips to repair
Several chips clustered together compromise strength and clarity beyond what repair can fix.
